"Saltarello", in this instance, is a 14th century lively dance from Italy. Originally, this piece is monphonic with a repeated 4 phrases as seen in estampies. Estampies are believed to be the oldest surviving examples of purely instrumental music from Western Europe. The arranger fell in love with Saltarello during Freshman Music History, and always wanted to arrange the piece for a larger ensemble.
